V for Vendetta by the writer Alan Moore and artist David Lloyd started in 1982 in British Warrior magazine. The magazine came to it's end in 1985, but after the small brake V for Vendetta was published in single comic book. Moore is known his other works Watchmen, From Hell, Killing Joke and The League of the Extraordinary Gentlemen.
In the story mystical anarchist wears Guy Fawkes mask and revenges for his torturers one by one, and letter "V" rises up in many forms. First 40 pages of the story is quite ordinary dystopian comic, but after that Moore's developing as a writer is seen well.
V for Vendetta movie (2005) was directed by James McTeigue and screenplay was written by Andy and Larry Wachowski. Film was starred by Natalie Portman (Evey), Hugo Weaving (V), Stephen Fry (Deitrich) and John Hurt (Adam Sutler). Note, that in the movie Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) John Hurt played Winston Smith, who where tortured by the goverment, but in V for Vendetta he is the torturer.
