Heavy Metal magazine publishes science fiction and fantasy comics and illustrations. Cover art is primarily known for erotic fantasy. French Métal Hurlant started in 1974, but ended in 1987. Luckily magazine started again in 2002. Heavy Metal started in States 1977 and still continues. Under the Heavy Metal brand is also published movies, games, statues, figurines, toys and wallpapers.

Giger, Massimiliano Frezzato, Moebius, Greg Hildebrandt, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Michael Kaluta (best known from The Shadow), Peter Kuper, Simon Bisley, Stan Manoukian, Val Mayerik, Luis Royo, Ricardo Santos, Vicente Segrelles, Paolo Serpieri, Lorenzo Sperlonga, Saverio Tenuta, Boris Vallejo, Julie Bell, Stacy E. Walker and Berni Wrightson. Notable, that many of them has worked with horror comics.
First Heavy metal movie came in 1981, starring Rodger Bumpass, John Candy, Jackie Burroughs, Joe Flaherty, Marilyn Lightstone and Alice Playten.
Heavy Metal 2000 is the animated film from the year 2000. Directors Kevin Eastman and David Fincher is going to make a brand new Heavy Metal movie in 2012.
