Moebius – Jodorowsky: Incal – Struggle Of Good And Evil

Incal (or L'incal) is a cartoon scriptwright Alejandro Jodorowsky's and artist Jean "Moebius" Giraud's gigantic project from the years 1981-1988. Moebius is known science fiction comics and (mostly erotic) drawings to Metal Hurlant and Heavy Metal magazines. Moebius was part of the Art Department in Alien and The Fifth Element movies.

The main character in Incal is nosy private investigator John Difool. Incal has all the elements of hard-boiled detective-story: whiskey sipping private investigator, a beautiful woman in trouble, and a simple but mysterious mission, whose roots extend to the high level dirty game. Later Incal grows from detective parody to symbolic struggle of good and evil.

Moebius is not afraid crowded scenes, he actually seems to enjoy the challenging perspective drawings. Although the drawings are detailed, Moebius manages to retain the action. The appropriate moment, the action is stopped spectacular wide panel.

Incal has been published in full lenght in a single cover. The book's re-coloring has aroused bitter controversy around the world. New colors are radically different than the original, but it is entirely a matter of opinion, whichever is better. The new Valérie Beltran's colors are deeper and more varied palette, but the slide colors and the computer effects may cause irritation to the eye.
