Swamp Thing is created by Len Wein and Berni Wrightson. Swamp Thing first appeared in House of Secrets #92 comic book, July 1971, and as an Alec Holland in Swamp Thing #1, November 1972. Series were first highly popular, but sales dropped soon, and after the 24 issues series were canceled.
1982 Wes Craven made a Swamp Thing movie, and at the same time started Swamp Thing volume 2. Rising British writer Alan Moore were hired to write it, and he wrote a history. Alan Moore's Swamp Thing is one of the horror comic legends. He re-invent the whole character, and won the Jack Kirby Awards for Best Writer for Swamp Thing in 1985 and 1986. Series has republished as a seven hardcover collected editions. Later also Grant Morrison, Neil Gaiman and Mark Millar has written series.
Swamp Thing is filmed twice. 1982 by the horror-director Wes Craven, starring Dick Durock (Swamp Thing), Ray Wise (Dr. Alec Holland), Louis Jourdan (mad Dr. Anton Arcane), Adrienne Barbeau (Abigail Cable) and Ben Bates (Arcane Monster).
The Return of Swamp Thing came in 1989, starring Dick Durock (Swamp Thing), Heather Locklear (Abby Arcane) and Louis Jourdan (Dr. Anton Arcane).
