Tarzan is created by Edgar Rice Burroughs (b. 1. Sept 1875, d. 19 March 1950). Tarzan first appeared in the novel Tarzan of the Apes, 1912. At the same year published Burroughs's John Carter of Mars. Tarzan of the Apes started in newspaper strip January 7, 1929. Artist were Hal Foster. Foster has also made Prince Valiant series. A full page Sunday strip began on 15th March 1931, illustrated by Rex Maxon. Other memorable Tarzan artist has been Burne Hogarth and Russ Manning. Also Boris Vallejo has made Tarzan illustrations.
Western Publishing, DC and Marvel has published Tarzan comics. Also Dark Horse and Charton Comics has published Tarzan, and in Japan and Europe has been own Tarzan comic books (now quite rare). Manga series Jungle no Ouja Ta-chan by Tokuhiro Masaya bases to Tarzan. It has also made a TV anime series.
