Tintin is a creation of a Belgian comic artist Hergé (Georges Remi, b. 22 May 1907, d. 3 March 1983). Tintin is one of the most popular comics in the world. Tintin comic books have sold 200 million copies and the series has been translated into over 50 languages.
Tintin began to appear in Le Petit vingtième journal in 1929. The story appeared in graphic novel in 1930 called Tintin in the Land of the Soviets (Les Aventures de Tintin, reporter du "Petit Vingtième", au pays des Soviets).
Tintin is a young journalist, who will have exciting adventures around the world with his loyal friends, dog Snowy (originally Milou) and Captain Haddock. Tintin visit exotic countries, and also to the Moon (Explorers on the Moon/On a marché sur la Lune, published in 1953). Tintin itself is a fairly colorless and traditional comic character. For this reason, Tintin is easy to identify. The other characters are even more beaming: Milou shows often almost human intelligence, and drunk Captain Haddock's profanity is very unique.
Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are making movie The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, starring Jamie Bell (Tintin), Andy Serkis (Captain Haddock), Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Thomson and Thompson) and Daniel Craig (Red Rackham). Premiere is in 2011. Before that, we have to watch animation series and old French-Belgian Tintin movies from DVD. For Hergé fans can suggest I, Tintin (1976) and Tintin and I (Tintin et Moi, 2003) document films.
