Time magazine selected Watchmen one of the 100 best novels in all time. Watchmen is a detective story, scifi and superhero adventure, romance and a story of a world's end - everything that in same package, and much more. DC is planning to start to publish Watchmen-comics which are set to time before Moore-Gibbons -story. Alan Moore has said, that he is not going to write it.
Watchmen is set in year 1985 an alternate reality, where superheroes really exist. Superheroes are helped to win the Vietnam war, and the Watergate scandal is rebuffed. Tricky-Dick is still the president. Comics Code was never made, and horror comics, particularly pirate horror, is very popular.
Watchmen #5 Tales of the Black Freighter is a chapter in comics history. Panel order is symmetrical from the start and the end, and in the middle of the story is wide X-shaped panel. Composition is a mirror image from itself. The symmetry is not seen only in panels shape, but also in drawings and in ideas of the panels! (Don't try that at home.)
